OUR STORY
More than 40 years of experience.
The story of Emkay Foods began in the early 1970s when Mossad Kharma, our co-founder, embarked on his journey in the culinary world. During his summer holidays, Mossad worked in various restaurants across European cities, gaining ground-up knowledge and invaluable experience and a deep appreciation for the food industry.
Upon graduating from Cairo University, Mossad trained at a leading auditing and accounting firm, honing his skills in financial management. Shortly after, he joined El Masreya Company for Manufacturing Gutaberka and Packaging, the powerhouse behind Sheikh El Shareeb tea, which would soon become Egypt’s most beloved tea brand. In his role at El Masreya, Mossad handled financial and administrative responsibilities and eventually moved into distribution, forging strong relationships with various food sector establishments across Egypt.
By the mid-1980s, Mossad’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish El Tekkia Restaurant, an oriental food concept specializing in Egyptian homemade-style meals. Under his leadership, El Tekkia expanded to multiple branches across Cairo, Alexandria, and the North Coast. Mossad was deeply involved in every aspect of the business, from menu development and staffing to operations and sourcing.
This extensive experience in the restaurant industry led Mossad to co-found a foodservice supply business in the mid-1990s. AM Foods quickly became the leading supplier of quality ingredients to restaurants, hotels, and other food establishments, which then paved the way for the creation of Gourmet Egypt, Egypt’s first retail destination for high-quality food products.
Today Emkay Foods continues Mossad Kharma’s life-long work, driven by a commitment to quality, value, and consistency. Emkay Foods was co-founded by Mohamed, Rana, and their father Mossad, combining their diverse expertise to build a leading food supply company. Mohamed, the managing director, brings extensive experience in startups and turnarounds across food, real estate, and retail industries. Rana, serving as the commercial director, leverages her deep background in procurement and the food sector to oversee smooth operations and strong supplier relationships. Our team operates with a commitment to family values, ensuring trust, integrity, and dedication in every aspect of our business.

Our Logistics unit specializes in the efficient transportation and storage of food products, ensuring that they reach their destinations in optimal condition. We employ advanced logistics management systems and a skilled team to handle the complexities of supply chain operations, guaranteeing timely and reliable delivery.
Our Food Processing unit transforms raw ingredients into high-quality finished products through state-of-the-art facilities and innovative techniques. We adhere to stringent safety and quality control measures, ensuring that our processed foods meet the highest industry standards and delight our customers.
The Food Distribution unit focuses on delivering our wide range of food products to various markets, including restaurants, hotels, and retailers. We have a robust distribution network that ensures our products are readily available and accessible to our customers, maintaining a seamless supply chain.
Our Retail Solutions unit provides tailored services to meet the unique needs of retailers. From white labelling and branding to butchery management, customized solutions, and more. We offer comprehensive solutions that help retailers enhance their product offerings and improve customer satisfaction.
The Global Operations unit oversees our international business activities, ensuring that our operations across different regions are cohesive and efficient. With a deep understanding of global markets and regulations, we manage cross-border trade and collaborations to expand our reach and maintain our competitive edge in the industry.
BRIEF TIMELINE
2017
Emkay Foods Starts Operation
Building on 40 years of food industry experience, Emkay Foods kickstarted operations with less than 10 employees, primarily focusing on specialty meats supply.
2019
Introducing Bakery and Pastry
Our company has expanded its product line to include bakery and pastry ingredients, transitioning from a wholesale focus to also cater to food service and retail customers. Additionally, we have established a sister trading company in the UAE to support this growth.
2021
Processing Facility
We emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic as a leading foodservice and retail distributor in our key categories, continuing to innovate and expand. To adapt. we had started operating a pilot meat portioning facility, further enhancing our capabilities and commitment to providing high-quality products to our customers, in addition to rolling out our first retail brand.
2022
Moving HQ
We have relocated our headquarters and distribution operations to a newly acquired, state-of-the-art distribution center. Additionally, we purchased an entire factory from Germany to establish a larger meat processing plant, significantly enhancing our production capabilities and efficiency.
2023
Exports
We have opened a local sourcing and export-focused desk, enabling us to better serve our markets and expand our reach. We have also started producing custom branded products, and successfully exported our first shipments of olives to Spain.
2024
Local and Global Expansion
We have established trading and distribution sister companies in Canada and Australia and are studying other global targets for further expansion. Our current distribution center has been expanded from 3,000 to 3,500 pallet positions, and we are in the process of building four new production facilities. Additionally, we have acquired an adjacent 6,000 square meter industrial building to support our growing operations.
